The problem is, the Nazis tried to kill us all because of who we were. An Israeli historian , Shlomo Sand, has gone overboard trying to disprove such an idea, just using religion as the item that binds us together. He wrote a book to do this and knows nothing about genetics with its DNA information that has appeared. It's most exciting to realize, as we have always thought, that our roots came from Abraham and Moses in the Middle East, specifically from Israel and that the Arabs were our distant cousins as the Bible says and even that someday we would come together again in an in-gathering.
"In 2010, Harry Ostrer, a medical geneticist from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, published a study concluding that many “geographically and culturally distant Jews still have more genes in common than they do with non-Jews around them,” and that such genes were of “Levantine origin”. Ostrer said, “I would hope that these observations would put the idea that Jewishness is just a cultural construct to rest.”
Sand replied to the genetic study’s refutation by saying, “Hitler would certainly have been very pleased.”

Breaking Israel News spoke to Bennett Greenspan about the genetic aspect of Judaism and how it relates to the Jewish claim to the Land of Israel. Greenspan founded Family Tree DNA, the first American company to offer genealogical DNA testing directly to the general public, and his conclusions are based on a database of hundreds of thousands of genetic samples .
“On the Y-DNA test that tracks the paternal line, 75-85% of Jews have a Semitic ancestry, that is to say they are from the Middle East. ‘Semitic’ may also include Turkey and Northern Syria, going back 3,000 years,” Greenspan explained.

He said that according to the genetic results, “I am a Jewish Arab. The world has Christian Arabs, Muslim Arabs, and Jewish Arabs. The difference is that 2,000 years ago, the Muslim Arabs didn’t yet have a religion, and the Jewish Arabs did. Our Temple was defiled, the Jews revolted, and we got beat. The Jews were exiled from our land by the superpower of the day.” (Moses lived 1391-1271 BCE); Jesus lived ( c 7 BCE-29 CE); (Muhammad lived 570-632 CE).
“Shlomo Sand is wrong when he says that Jews are no more related to other Jews in other places in the world than to Christians or Muslims,” Greenspan stated unequivocally to Breaking Israel News. “The genetic facts do not at all support that theory, and do support the opposite. The genetic evidence is strikingly clear.”
Sand’s premise, even when he wrote the book, was outlandish to many critics. His reason for taking such an untenable stance was that he believed a common ethnic basis for Judaism “nourishes anti-Semitism”. However, by denying Jewish ethnicity in an attempt to prevent anti-Semitism, Sand’s thesis has become a battle cry for haters of Israel. Sand is "Tel Aviv University historian Shlomo Sand. In his international best-seller, The Invention of the Jewish People (2008), he asserts that the Jews of today did not originate in the Mediterranean and that a “nation-race” of Jews never existed." He is a man trying to lessen anti-Semitism by using this theory but in the end has made it worse. Besides that, it simply isn't true. Read the article listed below to see Berkowitz's explanation.

The creation of the modern State of Israel has once again made Judaism a national identity and not just a religion limited to the occasional visit to the synagogue. The scattered children of Abraham have gathered together as an unmistakeable result of God’s covenant. Science has proven this to be undeniably true.

Goldfoot Cousin Connected to the Maharel of Prague

My 1st cousin, Nathan Goldfoot, whose mother was Helen Hochfeld, is related to Herb Hochfeld as a 2nd cousin. Hochfeld is a German Jewish surname. Hoch means high, tall, strong, noble, proud and it also comes from the Rhineland. Herb's haplogroup is J-M267 or more likely, J1c3d, and also has served as a Cohen in the synagogue all his life. It looks like DNA's haplogroup and family knowledge of being a Cohen connected. He took the test at Family Tree DNA for the Y haplotype and also for familyfinder. The Cohen information about the Hochfelds was also known to Nate's mother, as well, and she had never met her cousin, Herb, who would have been her 1st cousin once removed. Now I find that he is related through dna to my brother and myself, my 1st cousin Sandra, my daughter in law Molly, and best friend Victor. He's also related to one of the leaders on the Halpern & Branches group, Andi. All these connections go back much farther in history than my aunt Helen.
Herb was just notified that his Hochfeld family is related to Rabbi Judah Low ben Bazalel of Prague, called the Maharal, also known as Der Hohe Rabbi Low. He was born in 1525 and died in 1609. and was a Kabbalist and scholar. This is information handed down through the family. After serving as chief rabbi of Moravia from 1553 to 1573, he settled in Prague, now part of the Czech Republic, where he remained until his death except for 2 periods from 1584 to 1588. and from 1592 to 1598 in Posen. (In 1526, the year after Judah's birth, the Bohemian estates elected Ferdinand I of the House of Habsburg. The fervent Catholicism of its members was to bring them into conflict in Bohemia, and then in Prague, where Protestant ideas were gaining popularity.) We are beginning to see the conflict starting and the need for a golem.
He was a recognized leader of the Ashkenazi Jewry, and was much admired for his rabbinical and mystical learning. He was very active in all aspects of Jewish communal life, particularly in education. Judah wrote many books of commentary, ethics, Halakha and other subjects. His mind took a philosophical turn and so opposed the study of philosophy.
Many legends were about him, and in the 18th century, the tale of the Golem was associated with his personality. The golem has been a favorite topic in Jewish literature and is said to have spurred the creation of Superman by Jewish artists-writers. It was created by the use of Holy Names and is associated with the magical interpretation of SEPHER YETZSIRAH and with the belief in the creative power of Holy Names. the Talmud tells stories of the creation of a golem and they recur in Jewish literature from the 12th century on.
The German Hasidim of the 12th and 13th centuries regarded the creation of the golem as an ecstatic experience following a solemn ceremonial. from the 15th century, the golem in Jewish legend was under the influence of alchemical beliefs, and became a real, rather than symbolic creature fulfilling tasks imposed on it and also able to bring about destruction and ruin. These were exceptionally hard times, and people needed a Superman to come and save them.
In 1917 at the end of WWI, a statue of Judah was erected near the Prague city hall.
The original Bezalel was a craftsman of the tribe of Judah, responsible with another man, Oholiab, for the construction of the tabernacle in the wilderness as told in Exodus 35:30. He also designed the sacred vessels and the decorations.
This information has made Herb's day, which just happens to be Valentine's Day. Thanks for the update, Herb, and now to get your DNA retested for the familyfinder test with Family Tree DNA in Houston, Texas. We'll see what else can be found.
